What shall we do with the drunken sailor?

Miller’s signature Mariner hat combines elements of British naval uniform with the quirk of sailor antics in a life spent at sea. Rich Duffel wool and mismatched drunken patchwork lambswools give way to flecked summer linens bursting with camaraderie and colour.  With all our hats hand made for him, her and them, here’s to a Hoo-Ray! – And-up-she-rises!

The Skipper is Mister Miller's signature Sailor hat. What originated as a wide-brimmed straw item worn by 19th-century sailors, evolved into more of a modern boater hat before morphing into it's current sailor cap form. Initially construed to provide lightweight protection from the elements at sea, the hat became an important part of the British naval uniform until the 1920s, when the more modern sailor cap replaced it. The brimmed flexible Mariner of late has evolved through history too - some of the earliest designs bore ribbons streaming from the back of the hat. In navies around the world, the rigid white navy sailor hat became a standard issue uniform piece. For civilians, the sailor cap has enjoyed a more free transition. Mister Miller's hats play on sailor antics and the quirk of songs about life at sea. What shall we do with the drunken sailor?
